Thomas Tuchel cited 'Frank Lampard's legacy' in his first statement after succeeding the former Chelsea boss at Stamford Bridge.
The German coach has signed an 18-month contract with Chelsea just 24 hours after Lampard was sacked at the same stage in his tenure.
Lampard failed to build on last season's fourth-placed finish, with Chelsea's board wielding the axe after two wins in their last eight league matches.
In comes Tuchel in his place, who arrives in west London with a world class reputation, having enjoyed successful spells as manager of Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and PSG.
In his first statement, Tuchel said: "I would like to thank Chelsea FC for their confidence in me and my staff.

"We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard’s work and the legacy he created at Chelsea.
"At the same time, I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the most exciting league in football.
"I am grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family - it feels amazing!"
Tuchel was only sacked by PSG himself last month after a row with the club's sporting director Leonardo.
It was only last season the 47-year-old led PSG to a domestic treble as well as the Champions League final, which they lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich.
Chelsea have acted quickly to replace club legend Lampard, whose sacking has divided opinion among the Blues' fanbase.
Director Marina Granovskaia added: "It is never easy to change Head Coach in the middle of the season but we are very happy to secure one of Europe’s best coaches in Thomas Tuchel.
"There is still much to play for and much to achieve, this season and beyond.

"We welcome Thomas to the Club."
Tuchel takes the reins with Chelsea currently mid-table in the Premier League but through to the Champions League knockout stages and the FA Cup fifth round.
It is hoped his appointment will help bring the best out of Chelsea's two biggest signings of the summer, German duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
