Thomas Tuchel addresses Kylian Mbappe's PSG future after angry touchline spat

Thomas Tuchel admits he was "sad" after his weekend touchline spat with Kylian Mbappe, but says he doesn't think the incident will have an impact on the World Cup winner's future at the club.

A row between coach and forward overshadowed Paris-Saint Germain's 5-0 win over Montpellier on Saturday, with Mbappe, who had scored the fourth goal, visibly angry at being withdrawn just after Layvin Kurzwa had added the fifth.

The pair shared angry words on the touchline, with Tuchel putting his hands on Mbappe's shoulders and face as he sought to make his point to him. Mbappe eventually breezed past his boss and ended up cutting a frustrated figure on the bench as the match continued.

"I can't think that Mbappe might use this situation as a reason to leave the club," Tuchel told reporters ahead of Tuesday's game away at Nantes.

"He is one of our players, he has a contract. I took that decision and this is the coach's job.

"It's not personal between us. It's just a thing between a player who doesn't want to be substituted and a coach who has reasons to do so, because he has players on the bench who need and deserve to play.

"The problem is there are cameras, fans, journalists, and a lot of people want to talk about it. This is why I was sad. There were a lot of positive things to talk about on the pitch.

"I talked with Leonardo (the sporting director), as we usually do, at 11, after the game. But it will be between us and the staff, it stays in the locker room."

Mbappe continues to be linked with a move away from PSG in the summer, with both Real Madrid and Liverpool linked with him.
