Thomas Sandgaard 'very close' to completing Charlton takeover

Danish businessman Thomas Sandgaard wants to complete his takeover of Charlton this week, after Paul Elliott was denied an injunction to prevent the club being sold.

Elliott had been seeking to block the sale to Sandgaard while he appeals against the EFL’s decision to reject his own bid after he failed their owners and directors’ test.

Elliott argued his agreement to buy East Street Investments, the company that bought Charlton from Roland Duchatelet in January, should remain in place while he appeals. But on Tuesday, a judge ruled against the injunction application in a decision that gives Sandgaard the green light to complete a deal that Charlton fans hope will end years of turmoil.

Sandgaard has been in London since the weekend as he bids to complete the takeover. The 62-year-old was at Tuesday’s EFL Trophy tie against AFC Wimbledon.

“It’s very exciting that we got that hurdle out of the way,” Sandgaard told the South London Press. “It’s very close. Unless any more surprises come up, I think this is a done deal.”
