Thomas Robert transfer latest as Celtic target rocked by League One shutdown

Highly-rated Thomas Robert looks set to stay with Airdrie for the remainder of the League One season amid the lower league shutdown.

The 20-year-old’s move to the Diamonds from Montpellier raised eyebrows across the globe as the son of Newcastle and France star Laurent knocked back clubs in Germany, England and a new deal at the Ligue 1 side to rock up in Lanarkshire.

The winger has been an instant hit with the Diamonds and has been watched by both Rangers and Celtic scouts with Dundee United putting an offer on the table.

During Robert’s most recent appearance against Edinburgh City in the Scottish Cup both representatives from Hearts and Blackpool watched the Frenchman.

Agent Paul Tait had previously predicted a move away from the third tier of Scottish football across the next two transfer windows.

However, the Gold Sports Management representative now believes a summer move is more likely with clubs unable to keep tabs on Robert during the three-week halt and will be patient to find “the right deal.”

He said: “It’s unfortunate the league is off until February. It would've been good for Thomas to get more game time during January.

“Not much has been happening and clubs can’t get the opportunity to watch players so it’s looking like it might be the summer until the right deal comes up.”
