Thomas Robert in Celtic transfer limbo as Airdrie star faces anxious wait for two key decisions

Highly-rated Thomas Robert is facing a waiting game over a potential move to Celtic amid the behind-the-scenes Parkhead rebuild.

The 20-year-old returned to action for Airdrieonians last weekend in the defeat to Peterhead after a trial at Lennoxtown.

However, Record Sport understands no final decision will be made on a contract offer until a director of football and manager are appointed.

Robert’s agents have been in talks with Hoops' Head of Football Operations Nick Hammond but with appointments to be made in the coming months a deal is not on the table as it stands.

The former Montpellier kid was working under Celtic youth chief Chris McCart during his spell with club but the new management structure with have the final call on a contract offer.

Fellow Premiership sides Dundee United and Aberdeen are also keeping tabs on the youngster ahead of the summer window and could step in to beat the Hoops to a deal.

So far this season Robert, son of former Newcastle star Laurent, has been scouted by Celtic, Rangers, Hibs and Hearts after a surprise move to the third tier of Scottish football.

Diamonds' boss Ian Murray admits the club wouldn't stand in the way of a player who has a chance to step up a level.

He said: "He has went to Celtic, done well and enjoyed it, and worked with players and coaches from a high level in a Champions League level environment.

"He is going to learn a lot from it, but he just needs to keep doing the work for us and people will come and watch.

"He's been great. It's a very difficult thing for him to do, adapt to our way of culture never mind our way of playing, and he has adapted very quickly.

"We knew he would catch the eye. When you're playing well, clubs look at you, there is nothing we can do about that.

"We want to keep our best players but we won't stand in their way of an opportunity to progress."
