Thomas Robert ends Celtic and Burnley speculation as former target takes next step after Airdrie exit

In-demand Thomas Robert has made his next move — but it's not to Celtic or Burnley.

The son of Newcastle hero Laurent, Robert surprised many when he rocked up at Airdrieonians last summer after knocking back a new contract at Montpellier plus deals from English and German clubs.

His talent has been clear ever since and the Hoops have long eyed a move, while he also had an extended trial at Turf Moor.

But Robert hasn't been interested in sticking around in hope of a UK club offering a contract as he's now signed for second-tier Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron.

The winger has penned a deal until the summer of 2023, with the option of a further year.

Robert turned out for the Clarets' B team against Rangers and Ayr while he was also offered a temporary spell at Lennoxtown to weigh up if he'd be a good fit for the reserve side.

But around the same time, the Parkhead club were left in the lurch by Eddie Howe before they appointed Ange Postecoglou and those behind-the-scenes changes left Robert waiting.

He then returned to Excelsior Stadium to help the Diamonds to the play-off final.

Robert joins a club needing a big lift as Mouscron remain pointless after three games in the First Division B.
