Thomas Partey was 'put on spot' as details of how Arsenal angered Atletico Madrid emerge

Thomas Partey was reportedly 'put on the spot' by Arsenal and made to make a transfer decision on deadline day morning.

The Gunners made a late swoop for the Atletico Madrid midfielder, triggering his £52.5million release clause on the final day of the window.

According to Spanish publication Marca, Arsenal got the ball rolling in the very early hours of Monday by calling Partey's representatives at 2am.

In this call, the Gunners outlined that they were going to trigger Partey's release clause and that he would have to make up his mind as to whether he wanted to join Arsenal.

Partey reportedly learned of Arsenal's phone call when he woke up on Monday morning, and was 'put on the spot' and 'forced' to make a quick decision, report Marca.

By swooping for Partey so late in the window they prevented Atletico from signing a replacement, with a source telling The Athletic, the relationship between the two clubs is now "irreparable".

Partey signed a four-year deal at Arsenal, and will earn £260,000-a-week. He also received £2.5m as a signing-on fee.
