Thomas Partey tipped to flourish at Arsenal if Mikel Arteta makes midfield decision

Thomas Partey has been tipped to flourish at Arsenal if Mikel Arteta plays him alongside Dani Ceballos in midfield.

That's according to former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchinson, who reckons Partey will form a "real relationship" with the Real Madrid loanee.

Ghanaian midfielder Partey was snapped up by the Gunners on deadline line, after Arsenal triggered the release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract.

He is expected to play a central role in helping Arsenal qualify for the Champions League this season with a fourth-place finish.

And Hutchinson believes he's more than capable of doing that, if Arteta finds a way to successfully pair him with Spain international midfielder Ceballos.

"Thomas Partey will be a great signing for Arsenal," said Hutchison.

"I was reading that Diego Simeone isn't happy because he wanted the pair – Lucas Torreira and Partey together.

"For Arsenal they need that sort of player like Partey: a physical presence.

"He's very good on the ball, he plugs lots of gaps and with Dani Ceballos, they could form a real relationship in there."

Arsenal fans could get a first look at their new signing in action against Manchester City on October 17, when the Premier League returns following the international break.

But Arteta may not wish to throw his new recruit straight in the deep end against Pep Guardiola's side.
