Thomas Partey's return date finally set as Arsenal midfielder steps up recovery

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is not part of the travelling squad to face West Brom on Saturday, football.london understands.

The 27-year-old summer signing from has only managed 278 minutes of Premier League football since joining from Atletico Madrid in October.

He was initially forced off at half-time of the 3-0 match against Aston Villa last month, before suffering a recurrence of the same injury in the defeat to Tottenham last month and hasn't played since.

However, he recently stepped up his recovery and has resumed training with the first team as pictures showed at London Colney on Friday.

Partey won't be involved against West Brom but the Arsenal medical team have pencilled in the match against Newcastle on January 9 as a potential return date for the £45million man.

When asked if Partey could be available for the previous match against Brighton or tomorrow's game with West Brom, manager Mikel Arteta said:

"Not yet, he hasn’t started to train with us yet so I think he’s a few more days away."

Mikel Arteta's side have won their last two league matches and welcome back Willian and David Luiz in the squad after both players missed the past two matches through illness.
