Thomas Partey's rep drops huge transfer hint as Arsenal prepare to pay release clause

A representative for Thomas Partey has seemingly dropped a transfer hint amid Arsenal's interest in the Ghanian.

Arsenal have been in pursuit of an attacking midfielder all summer and were heavily linked with a move for Houssem Aouar before he pledged his future to Lyon.

Partey is the other name on the club's wishlist, but with time rapidly running out in the transfer window, a deal appeared to be off the cards.

According to Goal, Arsenal have this Monday indicated that they will pay Partey's £46million Atletico Madrid release clause.

The Gunners are making the necessary arrangements, including having the 27-year-old complete his medical in Spain so as to speed up the process.

The news comes after a representative for Partey appeared to drop a hint on social media.

Samuel Zigah, who is Partey's public relations officer, tweeted an emoji of an hourglass without a caption linked to the post.

Arsenal fans have been speculating that Zigah is indicating time is running out on a deal, but one is certainly in the pipeline.

Lucas Torreira meanwhile is still expected to head in the opposite direction.

The Uruguay international has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, and Atletico are keen to bring him in on loan on deadline day.

Atletico have the option of signing Torreira permanently for £22m at the end of the season.

But they are under no obligation to do so if the loan deal doesn't go to plan.

Will Thomas Partey sign for Arsenal this deadline day? Have your say here.
