Thomas Partey's agents apologise after social media post involving Arsenal and Man Utd

The agents of Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey have been forced to apologise over a social media post asking fans to vote on his next club.

Partey has been attracting interest from teams across Europe, including Arsenal and Man Utd who have both been linked with a move for the midfielder.

JJ Sports Management, who represent Partey, posted an image on their Instagram account, which said: "Pick his club."

Underneath a picture of Partey were the badges of both Arsenal and Man Utd, as well as Juventus, Bayern Munich and PSG.

The post was quickly deleted, and the agency issued a statement by way of an apology.

The statement read: "In view of the publication that was made today Wednesday 29 April 2020 on our Instagram account, regarding the future of our player Thomas Partey, from JJ Sport Managers we want to convey that this publication was not approved by the company management.

"An internal investigation has been opened to find out what exactly happened, we are sure that this has not been intentional on the part of any of our workers and it is probably an unfortunate mistake.

"The publication has been deleted as soon as we have become aware of its existence.

"In addition, the keys of all our social profiles have been modified to restrict access only to essential personnel."

Arsenal had reportedly made Partey their primary transfer target this summer, but The Gunners are now unlikely to lodge a bid for the 26-year-old due to financial issues.

The coronavirus crisis has hampered Arsenal's spending plans this summer, leaving the door open for their rivals to swoop for Partey.

Atletico have Partey tied down to 2023 on his contract, but could now listen to offers for the star.

Partey is said to have a £43million release clause in his current deal, which would leave Atletico with little say if any potential suitors matched it with a bid.

Speaking last summer, Partey said: "The Premier League is a good league, it’s very competitive and has some of the best players in the world.

"Hopefully, one day. I would like to play there. My agents are on it so I will leave everything for them."
