Thomas Partey's agent responds to Arsenal transfer talk claims

Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has not entered transfer negotiations with Arsenal over a proposed summer switch to the Emirates Stadium, the player's representatives claim.

Arsenal supporters' hopes of landing the Ghanaian this summer were fuelled on Tuesday after his father, Jacob Partey, claimed that he had spoken to his son and confirmed that the Gunners were in talks to seal a summer move for the midfield enforcer.

The Gunners are desperate to bolster their midfield options this summer - or by the time the next transfer window arrives - with Partey understood to be right at the very top of their wish list.

On Tuesday, Partey's father told Tru FM's Sports World Show: "I called my son after hearing rumours and he told me that the rumours are true.

"He told me they are holding talks between himself and Arsenal. It all depends on the offer Atletico are demanding. If he goes to Arsenal fine, they have a lot of supporters in Ghana.

"I will be happy if he decides to move to Arsenal. What they are discussing now is how Atletico will release him.

However, just 24 hours after Partey's father had delivered that news, the midfielder's representatives have now quickly extinguished those claims, revealing that no talks have taken place.

JJSports, Partey's representatives, said: "It's totally untrue."

The 26-year-old, who has been on the Spanish club's books since 2015, has been heavily linked with a summer switch to North London and his contract does include a £43.5million release clause, which the Gunners are expected to be only too willing to meet.

The tough-tackling, hard-working midfield man is high on Mikel Arteta's wish list this summer, with the Spaniard, who only took over at the Emirates Stadium back in December, desperate to bolster his central-midfield options, especially with him set to lose on-loan midfielder Dani Ceballos.
