Thomas Partey's injury is not serious and the Arsenal midfielder could be back for Sunday's Premier League match against Leeds, football.london understands.
The 27-year-old summer signing from Atletico Madrid has had a stop-start season due to injury issues over the past few months.
Partey had only recently returned to the team after suffering a hip injury which kept him out for 10 games.
And the Ghana international couldn't continue against Villa as he was replaced by Willian with 15 minutes left of the game.
"I don't know he had a muscular issue so we had to take him off," said Arteta.
"He could not carry on playing. We will see the extent of the injury. He wasn't feeling well enough to continue playing so we had to take him off."

football.london understands that Partey felt some pain in his thigh before signalling that he needed to be substituted in the second half against Villa.
However, the injury is not considered serious and the midfielder will spend the next few days recovering ahead of the match at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Arsenal are currently without Kieran Tierney who has missed the last two league games with an upper leg injury.
The former Celtic left-back will be hopeful of featuring against Leeds a week on Sunday as the Gunners look to bounce back from their two consecutive league defeats.
Bernd Leno and David Luiz will also be back for the match at Emirates Stadium after serving their one game bans respectively.
