Thomas Morstead shares amazing anecdote about J.J. Watt

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has a great pregame routine, capping off his individual drills and warmups by making his rounds throughout the stadium to play catch with young fans who arrived early to the game.

On Monday night, one of those kids happened to be the son of New Orleans Saints punter Thomas Morstead. Beckett Morstead and several of Morstead’s other children were in the field-level seating with their mother, watching their father, Watt and other players warm up for the game. Unfortunately, when Watt reached them, Beckett wasn’t ready to catch the pass, because he was distracted by a piece of candy.

The ball soared his way. Beckett panicked, dropping his lollipop. The little boy cried.

But then Watt pulled the ultimate good-guy move and stepped up, offering his gloves as tribute for the lost candy. And of course Beckett was happy to accept them, even sharing one glove with his brother.

“Thanks for making an awesome memory for my boys,” Morstead later wrote on social media. However, it turns out that the lollipop wasn’t as too-far-gone as Beckett and Watt assumed. “Apparently the five-second rule holds true, even on the floor of the Superdome.”

Sometimes things work out so that everyone gets what they wanted; Morstead’s sons got a souvenir, and Morstead and the Saints got their first win of the season. Watt and the Texans will have to try again next week for their own first victory, but with guys like him at the helm they shouldn’t have trouble rallying the team.
