Thomas Meunier transfer: Arsenal boss Unai Emery 'plotting reunion' with PSG star

Arsenal are targeting Paris Saint-Germain full-back Thomas Meunier this summer, according to reports in France.

The Gunners boss is looking to improve his defence during the transfer window after watching his side concede 51 league goal this season.

It is thought that the Spaniard is specifically looking to sign a right-back to provide competition for Hector Bellerin, with Stephan Lichtsteiner expected to leave north London at the end of the season.

And according to France Football, Emery has added PSG defender Meunier, who has also been linked with Premier League rivals Manchester United , to his list of targets.

Emery worked with the Belgium international before leaving the Ligue 1 side and it is claimed that he was impressed with 27-year-old during his time at the Parc des Princes.

Meunier, who joined PSG from Club Brugge in 2016, made just 29 appearances for the club in all competitions, with manager Thomas Tuchel preferring Thilo Kehrer and Colin Dagba.

It is reported that the French giants want £26.5 million for Meunier, while the player's interest in moving to the Emirates Stadium could depend on whether Arsenal qualify for the Champions League.

As things stand, the Gunners will not be in Europe's elite club competition next season after failing to finish in the Premier League's top four.

However, Emery's side can still book their place in the tournament if they beat Chelsea in Wednesday's Europa League final.

It is also expected that lifting the trophy in Baku will give Arsenal's plans in the summer transfer window a boost.

Emery will reportedly be given around £40 million to spend this summer, although that sum could increase if the club do qualify for the Champions League.
