Thomas Meunier labels Man Utd result the "biggest joke in football history"

Thomas Meunier has labelled Manchester United's Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain the "biggest joke in football history".

Meunier had been a Red Devils £22million transfer target until he made clear his intentions to remain in France.

The Belgian told Dutch broadcasters VTM Nieuws, he said: "I want to stay. We have been talking about a contract extension for a while, but there's no offer on the table anymore. I'm ready to stay in Paris. Everybody knows."

And now he appears to have put another nail in the transfer coffin by calling Manchester United's victory over PSG as a "joke".

Speaking to Le Parisien, Meunier said: "It was the biggest joke in the history of football. I would have bet €1million that we would not lose.

"The Champions League is still the major problem.

"Winning this competition and being part of the big ones like Real Madrid and Barca, which is what a lot of international communication has focused on, will take a long time. PSG is a club that is growing."

Paris Saint-Germain were leading Manchester United by two goals to nil after the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.

But two Romelu Lukaku goals and a last-ditch penalty converted by Marcus Rashford, which was awarded for a contentious handball, saw United progress to the quarters.
