Thomas Lemar left out of Atletico Madrid squad for cup win over Barcelona after Chelsea 'offer'

Thomas Lemar was left out of Atletico Madrid's squad as Diego Simone's side beat Barcelona 3-2 in a thrilling Spanish Super Cup semi-final.

Goals from Koke, former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata and Angel Correa capped a stunning comeback, after Barca had led 2-1 until the 81st minute.

The win for Atletico sets up an all-Madrid final in the revamped competition, after Real Madrid beat Valencia 3-1 on Wednesday in Saudi Arabia.

One player who looks unlikely to take part in the derby is Lemar, who was omitted from the 18-man squad for the tie against Barcelona.

Atleti boss Simeone admitted last week that the midfielder hasn't lived up to his expectations since arriving from Monaco in 2018.

"Facts speak better than words. Lemar is an important player who hasn't been able to develop his game but who has characteristics that others don't have," Simeone told the press.

"Let's hope he has a good moment when he comes back from injury.

"Now if Lemar can stay or not... we know that agents work in an exemplary way. Clubs work in function for their needs.

"He's played a lot more than he hasn't played. His characteristics have always excited me. But he hasn't been able to live up to expectations."

With the France international seemingly surplus to requirements, a host of Premier League clubs have reportedly been alerted to his availability.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in signing the midfielder on loan this month, with Frank Lampard's side already making an offer.

The report also claims the Blues could sign Lemar on loan as a short-term fix before making a bid to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho in the summer.
