Thomas Lemar left out of Atletico Madrid squad as Arsenal 'transfer talks' continue

Arsenal have just a few days left to complete their transfer business before the January transfer window slams shut for another year.

The Gunners have been linked with a number of players over the last month as Mikel Arteta aims to strengthen his squad in a bid to push towards the Champions League places in the second half of the season.

A deal for Spanish defender Pablo Mari looks to be edging closer to completion, with the player in London for final talks and to complete his medical.

However, defence is not the only position that Arsenal could add to this window, with Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar also emerging as a target for the Gunners.

There is contrasting reports over how close a deal to bring the Frenchman to the Emirates Stadium is, but it is claimed that Arsenal are in talks with his club over a possible transfer.

The player missed training with Atletico yesterday (Saturday) ahead of their La Liga game against Leganes, but that was down to illness. It was claimed that it would not rule him out of today's game.

However, upon the announcement of the Atletico squad for the match, Lemar was nowhere to be seen.

It could be that the Spanish club have decided not to risk the player due to his illness, or could his absence be related to a potential transfer?

Arsenal fans won't have long to wait to find out.
