A REFORM MSP was publicly called out at a protest in Glasgow for "whipping up hatred" following a video he made whilst on a "walkabout" of the city centre.
The party’s deputy Scottish leader, Thomas Kerr, was slammed by speakers at the Unite the Clans counter-protest at Glasgow Green, who accused him of adding fuel to the fire of division.
He was previously accused of "sickening fearmongering" after posting the video and claiming that the city is full of "disorder, intimidation, and neglect".
It led to human rights campaigner Muhammad Asif telling The National he would challenge the Reform politician to go on a walk with him to show him the city is not "lawless" as he says.
Last month, Kerr also said that Scotland's largest city was 'in a crime epidemic,' a claim not supported by the figures.
Ellie Gomersall, speaking on behalf of Women Against the Far Right at the protest, said: "There is a role that our politicians play in stirring up and whipping up hatred.
"We saw Reform MSP Thomas Kerr posting videos to his social media going on a walkabout around Glasgow, basically taking pictures of anyone who wasn't white and framing that as a threat to our city.
"That is racism, pure and simple, and we will not accept it. Our city is so much stronger because of immigration. Our diversity is our strength."
Her comments were echoed by Asif, who took to the mic to tell the crowd that he'd approached Kerr to invite him to go out with him and "the real people on the streets".
He said: "Going around looking for black and brown people, who are out on a sunny day enjoying themselves, telling people don't visit the city centre, it is so dangerous.
"How is he able to walk around on the streets of Glasgow in the city centre if it is really that dangerous?"
He went on to say that the UK has a responsibility for displacement, adding: "Asylum seekers and refugees will come to this country because Britain is at war in every illegal war around the world.
"When you bomb a country, millions of people are displaced. And when the very same refugees and migrants come to this country, we are told, you are not wanted in this country. You are a terrorist, you are a murderer, you are a rapist."
