NEW YORK _ Thomas Greiss was the star of the show Sunday night, making 34 saves and getting support from timely goals in a 5-1 Islanders win over the Leafs at Barclays Center.
Staked to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Travis Hamonic and Casey Cizikas in the first 7:22 of the game, Greiss had 27 of his saves in the first two periods, flashing his blocker to stop Connor Carrick during a first-period Toronto power play and then stretched out to stop Zach Hyman on a wrap-around try in the second.
Jake Gardiner beat Greiss through a screen 50 seconds into the third, but Shane Prince and Brock Nelson scored in a 2:39 span to put the game away and snap a two-game losing streak. Josh Bailey added one in the final minute to cap the scoring. Prince and Nelson each had a goal and assist and Dennis Seidenberg and Nikolay Kulemin had two assists apiece.
