Thomas Gravesen in classy Celtic Foundation gesture as Open Goal cult hero donates Hydro appearance fee

Thomas Gravesen has donated his appearance fee from Open Goal's live show to the Celtic FC Foundation.

The former Parkhead star was the headline guest on Sunday night as the popular podcast hosted a huge event at the SSE Hydro.

Gravesen joined regulars Si Ferry, Paul Slane, Kevin Kyle, Andy Halliday and a host of other guests at the Glasgow venue.

The 45-year-old Dane has earned cult hero status after a number of his former Celtic team-mates shared stories of his larger than life personality on the podcast.

But rather than accept a payment, Gravesen handed the money over to Celtic's charity organisation.

He said: “It was great to be back in Glasgow – the two years I had here bring back many special memories for me.

"I’m very aware of the work that Celtic FC Foundation are doing in the city and in various other places, and I’m delighted that I can help them in this way."

The Celtic Foundation's chief-executive Tony Hamilton thanked Gravesen for his generosity.

He said: “We are very grateful to Thomas Gravesen and Open Goal for thinking of us.

"Thomas was brilliant at the Open Goal event, and this kindness in not taking his appearance fee means that we can do more for those in our communities who are struggling at the moment.”

Gravesen signed for Celtic under Gordon Strachan in 2006, joining from Real Madrid after a successful spell at Everton.

He made 22 appearances before leaving in 2008.
