Thomas Frank tells Brentford: Shake off Stoke loss ahead of crunch final fixtures

Thomas Frank has told Brentford to forget their shock defeat at Stoke and be ready to pounce on any slips by West Brom on the final day of the Championship season.

Automatic promotion is out of Brentford’s hands going into the final round of games on Wednesday after they lost 1-0 on Saturday. The Bees had an opportunity to go second after West Brom were beaten at Huddersfield on Friday but blew their big chance.

It means they stay third and will have to settle with a play-offs place if West Brom beat QPR at The Hawthorns on Wednesday. Brentford, a point behind the Baggies, play relegation-threatened Barnsley at Griffin Park.

Frank said: “We have to keep our heads up. We have an important game on Wednesday. We lost a very tight game against Stoke but that is the past.

“We need to do everything we can to be ready and take our chances. We have one more big game. I promise we will be ready to fight.”

Fulham could still leapfrog West Brom and Brentford into second place if both teams slip up and they beat Wigan away. Fulham are unbeaten in six matches and manager Scott Parker said: “Momentum is with us.”

Charlton go into the final day knowing they might need a result at Leeds to stay up, depending how Wigan, Barnsley and Luton do.
