The reason why Ivan Toney was not in Brentford's squad to face Leeds United revealed

Brentford were dealt with a huge blow ahead of their clash against Leeds United this afternoon.

Thomas Frank has revealed that the Bees striker has tested positive for COVID-19, and as a result missed Brentford's huge clash with Leeds. An ever-present, Toney has also played every single minute of Brentford's Premier League campaign

As a result of his untimely absence, the Bees have been forced to play a front two of Sergi Canos and Bryan Mbeumo. It is undeniably a massive blow for Frank and the Bees, as he is such a key presence for Brentford both in defence and attack. He might have had just four league goals to his name, but he has been more than just a goal-scorer for Frank's side.

Toney is also set to miss Friday's match against Watford and possibly against Manchester United next Tuesday, but this is a huge opportunity for the likes of Marcus Forss, Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa to show what they can do in Toney's absence.

They will have massive shoes to fill temporarily, as Toney self-isolates and watches on from home to see how his team-mates cope without him ahead of successive home games.

Frank will hope to have the striker back fully fit and recovered, for the away trip to Southampton on December 18 as Brentford approach a massive Christmas period with games against the Saints followed by another trip to the South Coast against Brighton on Boxing Day before ending 2021 with a home game against high-flying Manchester City.
