Thomas Dimitroff among the elites in NFL.com’s new GM power rankings

The Falcons are coming off of a down year in which they finished 7-9 and missed the playoffs. Most believe the team will bounce back next season, the way they always have under general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

Atlanta has done about as well as you can without winning the Super Bowl during Dimitroff’s 11 years at the helm. He’s drafted well, hired the right coaches and seemingly puts the team in position to contend almost every year. As is appropriate, Dimitroff is getting the recognition he deserves as one of the league’s top executives.

In NFL.com’s latest GM power rankings, Dimitroff ranked No. 5 on the list. Here is what Gregg Rosenthal wrote about the man whose been calling the shots for Atlanta since 2008.

The 2018 season went horribly awry in a number of ways for Dimitroff, but this rank attempts to take the longview, like general managers do. Dimitroff’s track record with two different head coaches is impressive, although it’s fair to question whether the Falcons have rewarded some of the wrong players lately. . . Still, there’s too much talent on this roster to stay down for long.

Dimitroff has constructed a roster that usually is competing for a playoff spot despite playing in arguably the toughest division in the NFL.

If he can secure another solid draft class this weekend, the team should be right back in the thick of the NFC South race in 2019.
