Thomas Cook reassures customers that it is 'business as usual' after shares plunge

Thomas Cook has been reassuring customers that it is 'business as usual' ahead of the summer holidays.

The reassurance comes after the travel agency reported a loss of £1.5bn for the first half of the year, partly credited to Brexit uncertainty and Britain's heatwave last summer.

This resulted in a number of holidaymakers to take to Twitter to raise their concerns about their upcoming trips.

Staff from Thomas Cook have repeatedly tweeted that it's 'business as usual' and holidays are 'still going ahead', despite fears that the company could go into administration.

The firm said to one user: "Please let me reassure you that we're not going into administration, closing down or going bust. We continue to trade and operate as normal and all our flights & holidays are going ahead as normal."

The conversations between Thomas Cook and its concerned customers have caused a long thread on firm's Twitter feed.

Some users questioned the travel giant about speculation over the firm's ATOL licence, in which Thomas Cook responded with a hopeful message about their forecasts.

Protection under ATOL - the Air Travel Organiser's Licence - means UK travellers do not lose their money or become stranded abroad if a holiday firm collapses.

If flights are booked separately, the ATOL scheme does not usually come into effect.

Thomas Cook, whose head office is in Manchester, offers nonstop flights from Manchester Airport to more destinations in the USA than any other airline.
