Glasgow Airport have detained planes belonging to following a row over unpaid bills.

Four aircrafts that landed in Glasgow yesterday have been held up at the airport following the firm's collapse.

A spokesman from Glasgow Airport confirmed that the Thomas Cook planes had been seized on behalf of the airport "as security against a range of charges".

He said: "The aircraft have been detained under the provisions of The Civil Aviation (Chargeable Air Services) (Detention and Sale of Aircraft for Eurocontrol) Regulations 2001 and The Civil Aviation (Chargeable Air Services) (Detention and Sale of Aircraft) Regulations 2001 and Section 88 of The Civil Aviation Act 1982.

"These regulations permit airports to detain aircraft as security against a range of charges incurred including air traffic charges. This is happening across the UK where TC aircraft are based."

The news comes after Glasgow Live reported that all of the travel agents' flights in and out Glasgow Airport had been cancelled after the firm went bust in the earlier hours of yesterday morning.

The company was unable to secure the extra £200 million needed to keep the business afloat following a full day of crucial talks with the major shareholder and creditors on  Sunday.
