Thom Brennaman replaced by Kevin Kugler on FOX NFL broadcasts

Detroit Lions fans know the voice of Thom Brennaman very well. His FOX broadcast team, which also includes color analyst Chris Spielman and field reporter Luara Okmin, covered the team four times in the 2019 season.

Spielman and Okmin will be back, but Brenneman has been replaced as the ringmaster. The longtime broadcaster was fired after he made a senseless homophobic remark on an open microphone during a Cincinnati Reds broadcast recently. He will be replaced by Kevin Kugler, according to The Athletic:

The Athletic has learned that Kevin Kugler will take over Brennaman’s NFL play-by-play role. He will partner with Chris Spielman and reporter Laura Okmin. Kugler has previously filled in for Fox on NFL games and has a terrific reputation within the industry as play-by-play caller.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Kugler did call a Lions game in 2018. He filled in for Brenneman in Week 8 of that year, the Lions-Seahawks game.
