Two Japan-based stars Thitiphan Puangjan and Theerathon Bunmathan have joined Thailand's squad as the War Elephants prepare to take on Vietnam in the opening match of the 47th King's Cup tomorrow.
Defender Theerathon has been in fine form with his J1 League club Yokohama F Marinos, winning all six matches he started in all competitions.
Meanwhile Thitiphan came on as a substitute for his club Oita Trinita in their 3-1 loss to J1 league leaders FC Tokyo. Thitiphan has a broken bone on his hand and will have to wear a splint to protect his wrist during the tournament.
Meanwhile Samut Prakan City midfielder Picha Autra has been called up to replace Buriram United defender's Naruebodin Weerawatnodom, who suffered a knee injury during the Thai League 1 match against Sukhothai last week.
"Picha is an attacking midfielder but he also played as a wing back for his club in many matches. He did very well and he would be useful for our team's tactics," said Thailand coach Sirisak Yodyardthai.
SHARKS APPOINT SASOM
Chonburi FC have appointed Sasom Pobprasert as their new coach yesterday.
Former Port coach Sasom, who is currently working as a TV pundit, replaced Jakkraphan Punpee, who resigned last week.
Sasom will begin his Sharks stint with a home game against SCG Muang Thong United on June 16.
