Thistle thrashing was a low point, we want to make amends, says Accies boss

Hamilton boss Stuart Taylor has challenged his side to show passion and fight to make amends for last months 6-1 thrashing at home to Partick Thistle when they visit Firhill on Saturday.

Taylor admits that defeat was one of his lowest points, and hopes his players will be looking to put it right.

The Accies head coach has long said he and his young players are on a learning curve, but says they need to do so, and fast, after crashing to a 3-0 defeat at home to Raith Rovers last weekend.

He says performances in recent weeks have shown him that it was a “one-off” as Rovers raced to a 3-0 lead before the interval, and wants to see some fight.

He said: “I feel exactly the same as I did on Saturday. I felt it was one of those games that was a little bit uncharacteristic of the previous weeks and we just didn’t turn up, which was disappointing, because the lads have been bang on it.

“Looking at the character of the players, I know that it was a one-off, and the way they’ve come back in training this week I’m looking forward to Saturday’s game, so I’m sure we’ll get a good reaction from them.

Thistle ran out comfortable winners in the October 15 clash at New Douglas Park (SNS Group)

“That [6-1] game was one of our lowest points, we asked for a response after that game and anybody who was at the Kilmarnock game noticed that there was a very positive reaction, a strong reaction.

“We didn’t get the result that we deserved, but we went down there, dominated the game, showed a lot of hunger and desire, and a real passion to go and put it right from the previous week.

“We realise one result isn’t going to make things better, but I keep speaking about it being a learning curve that we’re on, that we need to keep improving.

“There are going to be good days and bad days, but we need to make sure there are more good than bad.

“That’s what happens when you try and build something, but we’ll get there, and with the group of players we’ve got we’re positive, we’re confident, there’s a really good team spirit about the dressing room and everything’s positive in that sense.

Taylor will go head to head with his former boss Ian McCall for a second time this season (SNS Group)

“It’s just about... when we do make little mistakes that we try and make sure the opposition don’t capitalise on it. We’re building a culture and it’s important that we keep positive with it and keep going.”

Taylor expects a very tough game at a packed Firhill, and knows what to expect from his former Airdrie and Falkirk boss Ian McCall.

He said: “Partick Thistle are a team of experienced players, Ian McCall has always built his teams that way.

"Even the time I played under him, it was players that knew the game and certainly know the league, so it’s going to be a very difficult place to go to, because of the team that they’ve got, but we’re looking forward to it.

“But it’s just another game that we need to go and make sure we can try and win.”
