This Year's Cannes International Film Festival Is Going to Look Extremely Different

The Cannes International Film Festival is also a festival of fashion. Just like the Met Gala, it's one of the industry's biggest events, but there are certain rules to follow. There was the infamous no flats declaration, which was eventually updated to allow "elegant" shoes and sandals sans heels as long as they're not sneakers. Now nudity is being banned in every area of the festival.

That's not all, though. "Voluminous outfits" with epically large trains are no longer permitted. These regulations are pretty severe considering that the naked dress trend really found its footing at the festival. See almost every look Bella Hadid has worn to its premieres. Trains are another staple often showcased on the event's celebrated red staircase. It's going to be interesting to see how attendees respond to these new rules.

The 2025 Cannes International Film Festival kicks off today and runs through Saturday, May 24.
