A Bridgend woman has been banned from parts of Bridgend for her behaviour and given a one year criminal behaviour order (CBO).
Clair Thomas, 46, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 16, charged with numerous public order offences which had taken place in Bridgend town centre.
She pleaded guilty to using two counts of threatening/abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. She was also in breach of a previous community order.
Thomas was sentenced to 20 weeks imprisonment in total and made the subject of a criminal behaviour order (CBO) for one year.
The conditions of the CBO are:
- Not to attend outside or be on any property occupied by the ARC Day Centre, Boulevard De Villenave D'Ornon, A4061, Bridgend.
- Not at any time to be in Bridgend Bus Station, Market Street and Quarella Road, unless a prior appointment has been made, for which you are required to prove such appointment upon request and you must leave immediately afterwards.
According to Sergeant Wilcox from Bridgend’s community safety partnership team, this was a "last resort".
He said: "Criminal behaviour orders are used as a last resort after all other efforts to engage with individuals through partner agencies has failed. Thomas has been offered support and will continue to be offered support.
“We hope this CBO acts as encouragement for her to accept the support available.”
