'This will pass'- NHS staff share what they are looking forward to doing after coronavirus outbreak

Hard-working NHS staff in Edinburgh have been sharing what they're going to do after the coronavirus pandemic to boost spirits in the hospital.

While the rest of the country is being told to stay safe in doors, everyone from brave nurses and doctors to care home staff and hospital cleaners are doing their bit to save lives.

As the coronavirus death toll exceeds 11,000 in the UK, management at the capital's Western General hospital have been finding ways to boost morale among frontline staff.

Sticking a poster to the hospital wall, staff were encouraged to share what they were looking forward to doing when life returns to normality after the outbreak.

The sign read: "This will pass. Stick a post-it on the wall and share what you are looking forward to doing after COVID-19."

Many of the heartfelt responses yearned for everyday acts that were once taken for granted, like nipping out for a coffee, having a BBQ with the family and even strolling around Stockbridge Market.

But one answer served as a stark reminder of what many NHS staff are having to give up during the crisis, as one worker wrote: "See my wife and children again."

An NHS worker told Edinburgh Live that the poster was put up by the hospital's HR department. "They have been incredible at thinking of ideas for staff health and wellbeing", she said.

Despite the spread of the pandemic not yet showing signs of slowing down in the UK, there was good news at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as a smiling coronavirus patient was captured leaving intensive care after ten days.
