'My beautiful boy': Mother and community mourn death of boy, 4, in suspected murder-suicide

The mother of a four-year-old boy who died in a suspected murder-suicide in remote Far North Queensland has spoken of her devastation.

Police are investigating after the child and his 46-year-old father, Troy Harvey, were found dead on a property at Rossville, south of Cooktown.

In a public post to social media, Natsuko Kurihara said she was in pain after losing her son, Koah, on Friday morning.

"My beautiful boy Koah, he has had only 4 years of life … I'm in pain, life is not fair," Ms Kurihara wrote.

"Let the people you love know you love them as they can be taken from you.

"I'm so sorry Koah I couldn't save you. Love you forever."

Police discovered their bodies just before 10:00am Friday and declared a crime scene.

It is understood police are not searching for a suspect.

Mr Harvey, a sailing and boxing enthusiast who had a business building "alternative homes", was known in the local community.

Cook Shire Mayor Peter Scott, whose region takes in Rossville, said the deaths were a horrible shock.

"This is going to hurt," Cr Scott said.

"The fact that this is such a young child … this will be felt very deeply by a small, close community like Rossville."

Councillor John Dessmann from Cook Shire Council said he did not know the pair as personal friends but always said hello.

"I think that's what devastated most of the community, the child being involved. And they just don't understand, they can't understand why … I couldn't even put that into words you know, it's upset me, it's upset everybody in the community," he said.

Specialist police and detectives from Cairns and Mareeba travelled to Rossville late on Friday to commence investigations.

Detective Inspector Jason Smith said they were working to establish how the pair died.

Police are seeking information from anyone who knew them.
