First, thanks to Mr Agreeable for supplying some of the more leftfield links featured below. All of them are excellent and led me toward a John Bolton interview, old copies of Marxism Today and a two-minute clip from South Park that practically redefines the meaning of the word "obscene". Once again, keep those suggestions coming.
1. John Bolton Fact Checked A fortnight ago, the Daily Show's Jon Stewart interviewed John Bolton, America's former ambassador to the UN. As you can imagine, Bolton was none too happy about Stewart's endless ribbing and accused him of being wrong on, well, everything. The following day, Stewart went through the interview fact-checking it. Here are the hilarious results.
2. John Mulvey Uncut's deputy editor takes on the mammoth task of reviewing a new record every day. Witty and informed, you may not always agree with Mulvey, but we should thank our lucky stars he does a lot of the listening for the rest of us.
3. K-Punk Ostensibly a blog, this really reads like an ongoing book about everything. Highly intelligent, it features book reviews, musings on politics, art and science, and some truly lovely visual content.
4. Marxism Today I never bought Marxism Today when it was published, having gotten into my head that it would be impossibly dry and academic. Well, this remarkable resource proves just how wrong I was. Writers from left and right tackle politics and the arts with iconoclasm and knowledge.
5. The Filter Genius piece of software that automates your iTunes playlists. Simply pick two songs and off it goes. For more about what it can do, see this recent Guardian article.
6. When Saturday Comes The world's greatest football mag also features pieces on music and, of course, brilliantly acerbic assessments of the tragic state of our national team.
7. Index of Sound This is minimal to the point where it only features folders (no flashy graphics, no pics, no nothing really), each of which contains the work of some avant-garde classical composer that you can listen to as a live stream. Avoid it if you are stoned.
8. The Aristocrats With the furore about South Park killing off the Queen carrying on unabated, this is a salutary reminder of just how viciously funny and thoroughly out of order Cartman and the rest of the South Park kids can be. It truly beggars belief.
9. CSPAN A televised reminder of how vicious American politics have got since the Democrats took over Capitol Hill. Also has a great archive.
10. Encyclopaedia Britannica If you tend to use Wikipedia as your main source of quick information, then it is worth looking at Britannica, the daddy of all encyclopedias.
