This week's trawl through the wonders of the world wide web reveals an assortment of treasures including a site that cons the conmen and a highly alarming martial arts film.
1. Harry's Place One of the oldest and angriest blogs on the net. Operating beneath the slogan "Liberty, if it means anything, is the right to tell people what they don't want to hear." Harry and friends are never afraid to stick the boot in. Always immensely readable and occasionally bracingly offensive, Harry will sometimes break off from hectoring the powerful to meditate on art and ancient punk rock 45s.
2. Karate Fear Sent to me by reader Tsavo, this gruesomely scatological video of a karate tournament is best seen rather than described.
3. Scambuster 419 A 419 is a confidence trick. The scam operates as follows: the target receives an unsolicited fax, email, or letter often concerning Nigeria or another African nation containing either a money laundering or other illegal proposal. Or you may receive a legal and legitimate business proposal by normal means. The boys at Scambuster basically involve the scam artists in an endless, always hilarious correspondence, that nearly always results in the utter, sometimes highly public humiliation of the thieves. Very funny, not to say deserved.
4. Top Gun Recut Well it took some time, but finally someone has recut the action blockbuster Top Gun to reveal the homoerotic sub text. Rumours that the person responsible is Quentin Tarantino have yet to be confirmed.
5. The Power of Nightmares With Adam Curtis' new documentary The Trap now showing on the Beeb it is surely time to revisit his gripping account of the Bush/Blair War on Terror. Curtis is apparently in the process of recutting the film to take into account the 7 July 2006 bombings, so this may be your last chance to see what the original looked like.
6. Tony Blair sings the Clash Very clever footage of Blair singing The Clash's Should I Stay or Should I Go. Watch out for a smirking Gordon Brown and a tap dancing David Cameron.
7. The Cloud Appreciation Society Thousands of photographs of cloud scattered skies, some so beautiful, they take your breath away, are categorised and reviewed. An extraordinary labour of love.
8. Diplo A site that devotes itself to art, politics, design and music. Well-written, and wonderfully presented, it's pretty much a one-stop guide to contemporary British culture.
9. Astronomy Picture of the Day Fascinating pictures of our galaxy and beyond. Each picture is explained by a professional astronomer.
10. Resonance FM A chance to catch up on London's greatest and strangest radio station. Resonance promotes new music and fringe art with a passion bordering on the evangelical. If you haven't yet heard it go straight to the archives.
