Radio Times Festival, East Moseley
The nonagenarian TV and radio listings mag ups sticks to Henry VIII’s old gaff for its inaugural festival: a series of talks and screenings that take in many of Britain’s most successful programmes. Notable names sharing the secrets behind their respective shows include Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat, who’ll be discussing Doctor Who; Una Stubbs and Louise Brealey – AKA the “women of Sherlock” – and Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy. Other highlights include Paul Hollywood of the Bake Off revealing bread’s well-preserved secrets, Pointless co-host Richard Osman chairing a TV quiz created by the BFI (who also host Missing Believed Wiped, a talk on long-lost shows that have been deleted from the archives), and Kellie Maloney and Boy Meets Girl star Rebecca Root talking about their experiences of being transgender women. Broadcasting history gets some attention, too, with events on The Archers, Shipping Forecast and 30 years of EastEnders, as well as an appearance from one-man light-entertainment English Heritage site Bruce Forsyth.

Alex Ferguson: Leading, London & Manchester
By the end of his career in management, the public image of Sir Alex Ferguson had been reduced to a limited set of signifiers. He was a puce-faced man, standing on the touchline of a football pitch. But by then he was also, by any realistic measure, the most successful club manager of all time. And if people had started taking him for granted, Manchester United’s trophyless years since his departure in 2013 are an eloquent enough testimony. These talks – part of a national tour celebrating his book of the same name – see Ferguson talking to the BBC’s Dan Walker in Manchester for a Guardian Live event, and the book’s co-author Sir Michael Moritz in London. Don’t expect Beckham gossip, though: Fergie’s now a visiting fellow at Harvard, and his insights on leadership are world-class.

London Fashion Weekend
From red carpet favourite Amanda Wakeley’s evening wear, beloved by the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Angelina Jolie, to Henry Holland’s rise to fashion fame via a cheeky line of T-shirt slogans bigging up British design’s rising stars, the London Fashion Weekend talks programme has got it covered. Others discussing the necessary mix of elbow grease and glitter to make it in the industry include luxury it-bag designer Anya Hindmarch and Bella Freud, the longstanding champion of boyish cuts and pioneer in fashion film. For further insights into what goes on behind the scenes and how all of this makes it to the front page, there are panel discussions with leading stylists and editors such as Jill Wanless and Charlotte Jolly, the duo behind Hello! Fashion Monthly. Meanwhile, the classic fashion fetish object is unpacked in a talk on the V&A’s hit exhibition Shoes: Pleasure And Pain.
