New Movement Collective, Winchester & London
The members of this excellent collective are not just about creating new dance, but also about working with architects and visual designers to explore different visual possibilities for choreography. In its latest work – also its first for a conventional theatre space – it joins forces with minimalist furniture designer Jutta Friedichs to create a darkly absurdist comedy about the way people behave in small, everyday spaces. The stage is further animated by installation designers JaneJaney and light artist Yaron Abulafia, and comes with a score by video game audio designer Ben Houge.

Northern Light, London
The final week of the Wells’s Scandinavian dance season Northern Light opens with the Norwegian company Zero Visibility Corp. It’s Only A Rehearsal is a duet inspired by the myth of Artemis and the voyeuristic Actaeon, and it explores not only the physical relationship of the two dancers, Line Tørmoen and Dmitri Jourde, but the powerful hold of their gaze on each other. From Sweden comes the Cullberg Ballet, founded in 1967 by pioneering choreographer Birgit Cullberg and still committed to a changing experimental repertoire. In Plateau Effect, choreographer Jefta van Dinther sets his dancers in a world of constantly shifting shapes, exploring the ways in which we look at people and their environment.
