National Youth Dance Company: Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, London
Now in its third year, the National Youth Dance Company has staked its claim to near-professional status through the calibre of its dancers and quality of its guest directors. This year, it is in the hands of Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, whose new piece, Frame[d] – a combination of previous work and new choreography made in collaboration with the young dancers – is premiered by the company this week.

Ballet Central, Cambridge
The young dancers of Ballet Central may be graduating students at the start of their professional careers, but the repertory of its annual touring show is always an ambitious and entertaining mix. This year’s commissions include Four, a bright, neoclassical setting of music by Graham Fitkin from Scottish Ballet director Christopher Hampson; Christopher Bruce’s Morning & Moonlight, set to Benjamin Britten’s Sea Interludes; and Hopper, Kit Holder’s portrait of the life and work of artist Edward Hopper. It’s supplemented by excerpts from the classical repertory and revivals of other recent works.
