1898, London
The Print Room theatre company may have moved to a new venue but it continues to develop its interesting relationship with dance. Artistic associate Hubert Essakow has collaborated with three choreographers on 1898, a programme of short works that connect with the Coronet’s long history. Some of the choreography draws on specific events and people from the past, while some evokes the world of upheaval as the Victorian era passed through to the modern age.

Romeo And Juliet, Edinburgh
Jean-Christophe Maillot is one of the busiest choreographers in Europe, best known for his sharp, distinctive take on familiar classics. His adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming Of The Shrew was a huge hit for the Bolshoi Ballet when it premiered with them last year but, until now, no British company has performed his work. So it’s quite a coup for Northern Ballet to have acquired Maillot’s Romeo And Juliet. Transferring to the Grand Theatre, Leeds (4-12 Mar), this is a characteristically streamlined version, which focuses on the complex adolescent intensities of the two lovers rather than the political feuding of their families.
