Aurélien Bory & Kaori Ito, London
The lines between mime, dance, physical theatre and performance art have become increasingly difficult to draw, and the programme of this year’s London international mime festival reflects that fluidity. One of its highlights is Plexus, a new solo by Aurélien Bory that draws on the exceptional dance skills of its performer, Kaori Ito. Ito has performed for choreographers such as Philippe Decouflé and Angelin Preljocaj, and in Bory’s work she dances in a cage criss-crossed by thousands of cords, creating the illusion that she’s floating in space.

Aakash Odedra, London
Aakash Odedra, whose roots are in the south Asian styles of kathak and bharatanatyam, has become one of the most interesting performers of his generation, taking this classical language into the realm of the contemporary. His latest, very personal double bill opens with Murmur, a work created with Australian choreographer Lewis Major. Odedra explores his experience of being dyslexic and his difficulties with the written word, accompanied by light projections by Ars Electronica Futurelab and a score by Nitin Sawhney protege Nicki Wells. The programme’s second work, Inked, is a study of the magical properties of tattoos.
