Dance at Manchester International Festival
One of the highlights of this year’s Manchester international festival will be Tree Of Codes, a new work by Wayne McGregor (Opera House, Thu to 10 Jul). Inspired by Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel, and set to a score by Jamie xx, it combines dancers from McGregor’s own company Random Dance with soloists from the Paris Opera ballet. The festival will also host the UK premiere of Brooklyn street dance crew FlexN (Old Granada Studio, 11 to 12 Jul), who recently collaborated with opera director Peter Sellars in New York. Here they’ll be working with local dancers from Manchester.

Wales Dance Platform 2015, Cardiff & Newport
Independent dance-makers from across Wales get a showcase of their own with Wales Dance Platform’s annual programme of performance, exhibitions, film and discussion. The productions over this weekend are divided between Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff on Saturday, and The Riverfront, Newport, which will play host on Sunday, and they embrace a variety of styles and approaches. Between them, works by the likes of Cascade Dance Theatre, Chloe Loftus, Eleanor Brown and Striking Attitudes demonstrate the diverse and thriving dance culture that Wales has built up over the last decade.
