This week's family streaming picks

It is October this week, so ring in the season with some kid-oriented, Halloween-themed entertainment. Here a few selections that are new to streaming services this week.

Season Four of the British-German children's series "The Worst Witch" bows on Netflix Thursday. The series follows a group of young witches at a school for magic, with Bella Ramsey of "Game of Thrones" starring as Mildred Hubble. The series is the latest in a long ling of adaptations of Jill Murphy's book series, including the 1986 movie, starring a young Fairuza Balk and Tim Curry (you may be familiar with his infamous "Anything Can Happen on Halloween" tune from that film (www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FMf8ltkCgM).

Available Friday on Netflix is the Halloween special, "A Go! Go! A Cory Carson Halloween." The animated children's series follows an anthropomorphic car, Cory, as he navigates typical childhood struggles. In the Halloween special, Cory and his friends trek to the spooky side of town looking for treats.

Another animated Halloween special is coming to Amazon Prime Video on Friday, with "The Bug Diaries Halloween Bug-a-Boo." The series, aimed at preschool-age children, is based on the bestselling children's books by Doreen Cronin, following a trio of tiny bug friends finding new adventures in the big world.

Hulu will be debuting a host of new Halloween Food Network content, which always goes over well with the kid set. Get ready for seasons one through four of "Halloween Baking Championship," seasons three to eight of "Halloween Wars," and the "All-Star Halloween Spectacular: Special." Look for those on Thursday and perhaps your little ones will be inspired to bake up some Halloween treats.

Also on Hulu in October, introduce your kids to the appeal of the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, with their classic TV movie, "Double, Double Toil and Trouble," where the precocious twosome try to save their parents from their nasty aunt. Magic and mystery abounds, naturally. Cloris Leachman and Eric McCormack co-star.

For something more contemporary, the 2009 animated film "Monsters v. Aliens" on HBO Max, which arrives on the new streaming service in October, along with a host of other, adult-oriented films (they've got the best film library in the game so far). The film boasts a star-studded voice cast, directed by "Goosebumps" and "Detective Pikachu" helmer Rob Letterman.

Just a bit of family-friendly Halloween fun to set the October mood when it's just starting to feel like fall.
