This week's best-selling books

Congratulations to Tusiata Avia, winner of the Biggsy poetry prize (and $10,000) at this week's Ockham New Zealand national book awards. She is pictured at her Auckland home by her bookcase which includes Samoan Art and Artists, The Letters of Machiavelli, something by Roxanne Gay, and Paul Theroux's travel book The Happy Isles of Oceania.

This week's biggest-selling New Zealand books, as recorded by the Nielsen BookScan New Zealand bestseller list and described by Steve Braunias

FICTION

1 Auē by Becky Manawatu (Makaro Press, $35)

Good old Manawatu appeared at the Dunedin Writers Festival last weekend, and she read from her highly anticipated second novel. The passage she read was exhilarating. Afterwards she went on the drink with Talia Marshall, myself, and a crew of four from the Otago Daily Times (star reporter Daisy Hudson and cub reporter Riley Kennedy, and Mike McLeod and Nic Wood from the sub's desk) at The Craic and then Albar, both in the Octagon; she neither drank like a fish nor made an egg of herself, and only good things can be said about her character.
