Salford Lads Club
The Smiths room at the Salford Lads Club, themed after the band who made it famous in their The Queen is Dead album art. It was announced this week that a charity bike ride has been organised to raise money for the club to secure it’s future. And also replace a bit of the roof that got nicked. Wham!
Wham! fan Brian Turner has been ordered to pay a fine of £200 for playing the 80s hit Last Christmas on repeat between the hours of 1am and 4am, one night last May. Reports suggest that he was entertaining friends on the night in question, which should serve as a warning to anyone planning to attend one of Brian Turner’s dinner parties. John Lennon
John Lennon’s entire back catalogue was made available to download from iTunes for the first time. His widow Yoko Ono, who approved the deal with Apple, said: "John would have loved the fact that his music will now be available in a format suited to a new generation of listeners." Phil Spector
Phil Spector, currently on trial for murder and seen here at the Gold Star studios in 1964, opened the doors of his LA mansion to jurors this week. Foxy Brown
Rapper Foxy Brown was charged with assault after she allegedly attacked her neighbour with her Blackberry phone. The 27-year-old rapper, real name Inga Marchand, is already on probation following an altercation with two manicurists in 2004. Brown and her neighbour are said to have got into an argument over the rapper playing loud music from her car. Reports that the music in question was Last Christmas by Wham! cannot be confirmed. Tony Wilson
Anthony H Wilson, media mogul, music lover and "twat", died this week aged 57. He was being treated for kidney cancer but suffered a fatal heart attack last Friday. Among the tributes to pour in, former happy Mondays manager Phil Saxe said: "Part of me, part of Manchester, part of modern British music has died tonight.” Click here for more on Tony Wilson.
