Purple Rain, by Prince and the Revolution, was polled the greatest movie soundtrack of all time by a panel of experts at Vanity Fair magazine. The album pipped the Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night and Saturday Night Fever to the number one spot. And this despite the fact that one critic named the actual film "perhaps the most badly-acted ever". Paul Raven, one-time bassist with the legendary metal band Killing Joke, was found dead in his sleep. He was 46. A tribute on the Killing Joke website read: “We are all deeply stricken with grief at the unannounced departure of possibly the funniest man on planet earth and a brother to us all. Mick Hucknall has announced his band Simply Red are to split up in 2009 following their next major tour. Hucknall took the unusual step of scheduling his band’s demise two years in advance while in the middle of a radio interview.
