This underground arcade and gaming bar opens in Manchester next week - take a look around

A huge new arcade and retro gaming bar is preparing to open its doors for the first time in Manchester city centre.

NQ64, already well-established in the Northern Quarter and in cities across the UK, has secured a large basement unit on Peter Street and turned it into a gaming wonderland.

The site has been liberally splashed in glowing neon graffiti, painted by local artist Qubek, which glows under UV lights.

Inside, visitors will find rows of retro arcade games like Pac-Man and Time Crisis II, as well as cult classics from the 2000s like dance mats and Guitar Hero.

Themed pinball machines, Mario Kart and NBA Jam will also be available to play in the new bar.

There are free-play consoles too, including N64, MegaDrive, original PlayStations and Super Nintendo.

Each game on site is operated with a token system - 15 tokens cost £7, and each game takes 1 or 2 tokens.

The new NQ64 has taken up the unit that was previously home to glamorous nightclub Club Liv, which has moved to a new location on Deansgate.

Its neighbours here on Peter Street include busy late-night venues Albert's Schloss, the Peaky Blinders bar, and Impossible, as well as the newly-opened Blues Kitchen down the road on Quay Street.

Despite England not progressing to the next stage of roadmap, NQ64 will be opening its new bar on Monday June 21 at 4pm, with covid-safe measures in place.

The first 50 people through the door on Monday and Tuesday next week will receive a bag full of NQ64 swag.

The site at 23 Peter Street is open seven days a week, from 4pm to 3am Monday to Thursday, and from 12pm to 3am on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

It's only open to those aged 18 or older.
