A Melbourne based TikToker just received $2,800 from the government in pandemic support, which is a great reminder for you lovely people to check out what small business COVID payments are available, because you could be eligible for one!
Ellie Cas posts heaps of investing and financial advice on TikTok, including a video of herself receiving a sum of $2,800 directly into her bank account — which is obvs way more than the $750 COVID disaster payment most of us are familiar with.
@ellacas P.s I’d much rather be open & working for my money. #stimuluscheck #lockdown #stayhome #melbourne
While the cheeky TikTok makes it look like Ellie scammed the government by “registering a random business” (lol, please don’t do that), she ended up replying to comments that she does have a legitimate event planning business registered to an ABN which was raking in $70,000 a year before lockdown hit.
“If you have a registered business with an ABN, make sure you ask your accountant to look into the business cost assistance program!” she said.
“I feel like only rich old white men know this stuff and I want to help you gals out.”
I don’t know about click-baity TikTok videos, but it’s certainly a great reminder to make sure you apply to any COVID payments you might be eligible for – because hey, you might actually get more than you thought, especially if you use an ABN but are currently on the regular COVID disaster payments.
The $2,800 payment Ellie is referring to specifically is part of a Commonwealth and Victorian government-funded package for businesses affected by lockdown.
Part of the check list you have to fulfil to be eligible is that your business has to be based in Victoria, registered as operating in an eligible industry sector, and have incurred direct costs a result of the July or August COVID-19 restrictions.
There’s more info on all the business grants available in Victoria here, so go on, get that bread!
