This telltale symptom of coronavirus affects your feet - even if you have other symptoms

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, scientists are getting closer to understanding the novel virus and how it affects our body.

While the NHS has identified a dry cough, shortness of breath and a fever as the most common symptoms to look out for - one unusual symptom has continued to crop up.

According to the Daily Mirror, health experts in Spain are currently researching why so many coronavirus cases have purple lesions on their feet.

Last Thursday, The Spanish General Council of Official Podiatrist Colleges shared a statement revealing that several coronavirus patients had lesions on their feet.

The statement said: "They are purple lesions (very similar to those of chickenpox, measles or chilblains) which usually appear on the toes and normally heal without leaving a mark."

They said that "curious finding" has been observed in a number of COVID-19 patients in Italy, France and Spain, by podiatrists and dermatologists.

The purple lesions have been discovered mostly in younger people who have contracted the virus, although some older adults have them as well.

The experts encouraged people to keep an eye out for lesions, saying: "The Council of Podiatrists urges its Colleges and its members to be very vigilant because this may be a sign of COVID-19 detection that can help to avoid contagion."

They are still working to prove if they have enough "scientific evidence" to officially link it to COVID-19.

The International Federation of Podiatrists has shared the first case study looking into a 13-year-old boy with lesions on his feet.

He was initially suspected to be bitten by a spider after falling ill with purple marking on his feet.

However, a few days later the young boy tested positive for coronavirus.
