This surprisingly addictive resource management game is free on Steam only until tomorrow

Ever dreamed of being a 911 operator and deciding where to send units, how many to send, and when to simply ignore calls? Well, 911 Operator is the game for you. It's a bit bare bones, but if you can get past the dated UI, it's a fantastically addictive little game that could keep you busy for hours.

You're more like an emergency services manager, really

The game is called 911 Operator, but you don't just answer calls in this game. You need to decide on your teams, who takes which vehicles, what equipment to give your staff, and when to purchase new vehicles, equipment, or even hire new staff.

Once you're past all of that, you start your day and decide where to place units throughout the city. Incidents will occur, and you'll need to send different units based on the situation. The units you have at your disposal are medical, technical (firefighters), and police.

You will need to check on the details, however, to make sure you send the appropriate resources. A simple traffic violation? Send a bike to issue a fine. Got six ruffians fighting in the street? You may want to send a van or two so you have enough room for all your future prisoners.

By ignoring this, I got one of my ambulances stuck at a scene for way too long, since it stayed with the last victim (that it had no room for) until another transport arrived. With all the medical emergencies erupting across the city, this cost me (and my poor citizens) dearly.

911 Operator isn't a huge, award-winning title, but it's good fun trying to balance out your teams and respond to all the emergencies in time. It's classic resource management and strategy, and sometimes that's all we need to have some decent fun.

It's free on Steam for the moment, but only until Oct. 29, so if it sounds like your kind of jam, you'd better jump to it quickly. If you've missed the deadline, it's still a steal at its usual price if you're a fan of these kinds of games.
