This strange Pokémon visual glitch might point to a bigger problem with your Switch

An Incineroar with yellow fingers in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet looked funny to the Pokémon subreddit. It quickly became bad news for the original poster after another player shared that something similar happened to them, and it cost them their Nintendo Switch fans.

It became a warning for all players. User Active-Target-5210 shared a screenshot where the three middle fingers on their Incineroar’s left hand were colored yellow. Since we’re talking about Reddit, other users made jokes about how Incineroar had been eating Cheetos, had Raynaud’s fingers, but really, it just seemed like a minor visual bug.

But player Reallylazyname—yeah, that’s a really lazy name—revealed that three years ago, his Luxray had the same issue. A red stain showed up in its front right leg, instead of the usual dark blue. They ended up learning that their Nintendo Switch fans were not working, and that's what caused the visual glitch.

Essentially, it’s not a glitch in the software or the game itself, so it doesn’t mean that the game is buggy or that Nintendo can fix it with a game update. If you have this, it may be a sign that some part of your Switch’s hardware is faulty, which is why the color is slightly distorted when rendering the Pokémon model.

A Switch can overheat for several reasons, assuming this is really what’s happening to this unlucky Pokémon player. Usually, it means an issue with the airflow inside the console or that its thermal paste is too old, causing the Switch to become hotter than usual and potentially damaging parts of the console. This damage can be temporary or permanent, depending on the extent of the overheating.

It's recommended to turn off your Switch completely, and not just leave it in sleep mode. Leave it off for a few hours to let it cool down completely, then restart it and check if the visual glitch is gone. If it persists, it could be a sign that some part of your Switch is permanently damaged, that your Switch fans are not working properly, or that the air flow entrances at the top and on the back of your Nintendo Switch are too dirty and need cleaning to let the air flow properly to cool all parts down.

However, keep in mind that these occurrences happened three years apart, and it's really only an unverified claim. There are no references to this odd bug on Nintendo's official support page. So take it with a grain of salt, but we'd rather be safe than sorry in this instance.

When a Switch severely overheats to the point of damaging components, a kill switch forces the console into sleep mode whether you want it or not, as shown in the video below.

This Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Incineroar glitch could mean it’s time to change your thermal paste, clean your airflow entrances, or replace your fans before you get that terrible overheating error.

Sadly, this weird-looking Incineroar isn’t a special shiny variant.
